Touring Superleggera Blends Past and Future at Retromobile 2025

Touring Superleggera is making waves at Retromobile 2025 with an exhibition that seamlessly blends automotive heritage with cutting-edge design. The revered Italian coachbuilder is unveiling a meticulously restored 1959 Maserati 3500 GT, famously owned by the Dodge family, alongside an untouched 1961 barn-find example. Adding a modern twist to the showcase, Touring will also present the Superleggera Veloce12, a striking, limited-production V12 grand tourer finished in the dazzling Azzurro Cielo.

Restoring an Icon: The "Dodge" Maserati 3500 GT

Few cars have a story as compelling as this 1959 Maserati 3500 GT. Originally delivered to Allinger Motors in Palo Alto, California, the car spent decades in the care of Horace Elgin Dodge III, a member of the legendary Dodge automotive family. After its journey across the Atlantic, the car found its way to Touring Superleggera’s Milanese workshop, where expert craftsmen restored it to its original grandeur.

With a body built using Touring’s pioneering Superleggera aluminum construction, the 3500 GT was Maserati’s first mass-produced grand tourer. In this painstaking restoration, Touring worked alongside Candini Classiche to rebuild the engine and mechanical components, ensuring the car performs as beautifully as it looks. Its authenticity has been further cemented with Maserati Classiche Certification, a testament to its historical significance.

To highlight the magic of restoration, the fully restored GT will be displayed next to an untouched 1961 barn-find version, giving visitors a rare chance to see the dramatic transformation these masterpieces undergo.

Superleggera Veloce12: A Tribute to Italian Grand Touring

For those with a taste for modern performance wrapped in classic aesthetics, Touring Superleggera is also showcasing the Superleggera Veloce12. This hand-built, naturally aspirated V12 grand tourer combines elegance with exhilarating performance. Making its Paris debut in a stunning Azzurro Cielo finish; a hue inspired by past Touring greats like the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Lungo; the Veloce12 is a bold statement of automotive artistry.

With a front-mounted 5.5-liter V12 engine delivering 503 horsepower, the Veloce12 stays true to the grand tourer spirit, offering an intoxicating blend of power and poise. Limited to just 30 units, this car is a celebration of Touring Superleggera’s heritage, infused with contemporary refinements for the modern enthusiast.

Retromobile 2025: A Feast for the Senses

Beyond the cars, Touring Superleggera’s stand at Retromobile (Hall 1, Stand K-068) offers a full sensory experience steeped in Italian culture. Visitors can enjoy expertly brewed espresso from Faema’s iconic coffee machines, including the legendary E61 and the modern Faemina, alongside a selection of exquisite wines from Gruppo Ceretto, renowned for their rich Piemontese vintages.

Adding to the authenticity, Maserati Classiche will have a representative on-site to offer exclusive insights into the 3500 GT’s heritage and certification process. Enthusiasts will have the chance to delve deeper into the car’s storied past and the painstaking restoration work that has brought it back to life.

Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence

For nearly a century, Touring Superleggera has been at the forefront of coachbuilding excellence. From restoring icons like Gianni Agnelli’s Ferrari 166 MM to creating modern masterpieces such as the Disco Volante and Berlinetta Lusso, the company remains a custodian of Italian automotive artistry. The showcase at Retromobile 2025 underscores this commitment, blending history and innovation in a way that only Touring Superleggera can.

Retromobile 2025 runs from February 5-9 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. If you’re a lover of classic and contemporary automotive excellence, make sure to visit Touring Superleggera’s stand for a journey through time and design.

Turin, January 6, 2025 – At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Aptera Motors has revealed its “production-intent” solar electric vehicle, developed in collaboration with Pininfarina’s expertise in aerodynamics. This groundbreaking partnership promises to redefine the future of sustainable mobility, harnessing solar energy to virtually eliminate the need for traditional recharging.

The vehicle represents a major leap forward in energy-efficient transportation. Equipped with 700 watts of integrated solar cells, it allows most users to meet their daily driving needs without ever plugging in, offering up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day and an impressive 400-mile range on a single charge.

Cutting-Edge Design Driven by Pininfarina Collaboration

To optimize aerodynamics and maximize efficiency, Aptera partnered with Pininfarina, a global leader in automotive design and aerodynamics. Leveraging the renowned Pininfarina Wind Tunnel in Grugliasco (Turin), the project achieved one of the lowest drag coefficients ever recorded for a production passenger vehicle.

“Aptera has truly pushed the boundaries of what is possible in vehicle design and efficiency,” said Giuseppe Bonollo, SVP Business Unit Mobility at Pininfarina. “Aerodynamics have always been a cornerstone of our design philosophy, and it’s been thrilling to contribute to such an innovative project.”

Alessandro Aquili, Head of Pininfarina’s Wind Tunnel, echoed this sentiment: “Aptera’s commitment to innovation mirrors our own. The future of mobility lies in sustainable solutions, and we’re excited to support their journey toward production.”

A Vehicle Redefining the Future of Mobility

The unveiling at CES 2025 marks the public debut of Aptera’s production-ready vehicle, offering attendees a unique opportunity to experience this revolutionary technology firsthand. Located at booth CP-517 in the Central Plaza of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Aptera will showcase a vehicle poised to transform personal transportation.

Developed to meet the needs of an increasingly sustainability-focused world, Aptera’s innovative design combines advanced aerodynamics, lightweight engineering, and self-powering capabilities. The company has positioned itself as a pioneer in a transportation industry that is shifting towards solar-powered solutions.

“Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to deliver transportation powered directly by the sun,” said a spokesperson for Aptera. “With the support of Pininfarina, we’re able to offer a product that not only protects the environment but also redefines efficiency and design in modern mobility.”

A Sustainable Future Powered by the Sun

The collaboration between Aptera and Pininfarina is a testament to how technological expertise and design innovation can produce groundbreaking mobility solutions. At CES 2025, this partnership demonstrates that a solar-powered future is not just possible but already within reach.
