Francesco de Pinedo

Introduce

Francesco de Pinedo was born in Naples on February 16, 1890, and passed away in New York on September 2, 1933. He was an esteemed Italian aviator and general who distinguished himself during World War I, earning three silver medals, a Cross of War for Military Valor, and a bronze medal for Naval Valor. Recognized with the Knight’s Cross of the Military Order of Savoy, he gained fame as a pioneering long-distance aviator throughout the 1920s. Appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Italian Air Force, he later resigned due to conflicts with Italo Balbo. Tragically, he lost his life attempting a solo flight over a record-breaking distance of 6,300 miles from New York to Baghdad.
