Son of Prince Tommaso, Duke of Genoa, and Princess Isabella of Bavaria, born in the castle of Agliè on March 19, 1898. Second lieutenant of cavalry since 1916, he participated in the World War I with the Novara Lancers Regiment. In August 1917, he voluntarily enrolled in machine gunner courses and was with his unit from October on Monte Grappa and from February 1918 in Val Lagarina. As a colonel, he commanded the Savoy Cavalry Regiment; from March 1, 1934, he holds the rank of brigadier general, and from September 20, 1935, he is vice-commander of the mobilized Gran Sasso Infantry Division. From February 15, 1936, he is a divisional general and commander of the aforementioned infantry division. He is decorated with the Silver Medal and the Bronze Medal for Military Valor.
