Created in partnership with the Swedish manufacturer, the Volvo 262 C was conceived as a luxury coupé in 1977.
The Volvo 262 C is a stunning example of luxury and design, derived from the 264 GLE saloon. Carrozzeria Bertone, renowned for its stylish coachwork, had previously crafted a longer, more luxurious version of the 264, the 264 TE, a presidential limousine. However, the 262 C was a much more extensive reworking, developed at the Bertone Style Centre in Caprie in collaboration with Volvo’s research division. The result was a sophisticated coupé aimed at a more refined clientele. Compared to the saloon, the 262 C has a sleeker, lower profile with a smooth, elegant design. The roof features a unique, single wide pillar, adding to the car’s graceful and modern appearance. Inside, the 262 C offers a lavish experience with leather upholstery and walnut trim, providing a luxurious, comfortable atmosphere perfect for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship. The car was built to appeal to buyers seeking both style and substance in a vehicle. Between 1977 and 1981, Carrozzeria Bertone produced around 7,000 units of the Volvo 262 C, marking the car as a rare and special model in Volvo’s history. Its combination of Swedish engineering and Italian design made it stand out, offering a unique blend of practicality and luxury that appealed to a select group of customers. The Volvo 262 C remains a timeless example of automotive elegance, showcasing the best of both brands in a single, beautifully crafted vehicle.
