The Volvo 262 C derived from the 264 GLE saloon, of which Carrozzeria Bertone had made a longer presidential limousine version the previous year, the 264 TE. But the new coupé was the result of more extensive reworking, it was designed at the Bertone Style Centre in Caprie in collaboration with the Volvo research division. The model is aimed at a refined clientele: classic lines, lower and smoother than the saloon, with the roof featuring a single wide pillar. Interiors in leather and walnut make for a particularly comfortable, luxurious feel. 7,000 Volvo 262 C s were produced by Carrozzeria Bertone up till 1981.
