Pininfarina Sintesi is a concept car built by Pininfarina, designed to communicate and enclose in a single concept all the technological, stylistic and modularity contents developed by the car manufacturer in recent years. The name Sintesi is given to it because the car is a true synthesis of two other concepts from the Turin-based company, the Pininfarina Birdcage 75th and the Pininfarina Nido. The Pininfarina Sintesi was announced by Pininfarina in December 2007 initially with a symbol, namely a chromed Moebius ring. It was then virtually unveiled to the public, first with a hand-drawn sketch in January 2008 and then with photographs and textual information in an electronic brochure in February 2008. Finally officially presented to the public at the 78th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2008. The design concept arises from the manufacturer’s need to communicate its way of interpreting the car of the future. The synthesis is not “alien” compared to the current cars in production (as it happened in the concepts of the ’70s and’ 80s) but a direct evolution of it, especially in the arrangement of spaces and in the type of power supply. The Sintesi therefore encompasses concepts of spaciousness, safety, sportiness, eco-sustainability and performance. Sintesi was conceived by the Pininfarina Design Department, which since August 2007 has been directed by Lowie Vermeersch together with the deputy directors Guglielmo Cartia and Fabrizio Valentini, as well as the chief designers Giuseppe Randazzo, Giovanni Piccardo, Goran Popovic and Jason Castriota. The project was also followed by Nazzareno Epifani, who made the original drawings and followed the project as a designer. In December 2008, Sintesi won the Red Dot Design Award 2008 with this motivation: “the excellent quality of its design and the high degree of innovation of its technological contents”
