The Opel Astra Cabriolet: Having seen the success of the Bertone-produced Opel Kadett Cabriolet, Opel again faces the market with the Astra. Unveiled at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, this time, Bertone undertakes the true and proper design of the two-door convertible saloon. Following the german factory’s standards from concept to final testing, Opel Astra was born at the end of an effective traverse structural reinforcing operation achieved through elaborate research the reingeneering and the construction of numerous special plates for stiffening the body. Equipped with three superb four valve per cylinder ECOTEC engines: 101 Hp 1600 cc., 125 Hp 1800 cc., and 147 Hp 2200 cc. The elegant lines are the result of the combined efforts of Opel and Bertone designers, who have come up with a design which is both sporty and elegant, surprisingly so with the top down. On the deluxe Bertone Edition a remote-controlled hood, leather seats and wind break were available on request. The first reinforced roof pillar and the steel headrest frames provide the necessary protection in the case of rolling. Together with the Astra Coupé the Opel Astra Cabrio was produced by Carrozzeria Bertone in the Grugliasco factory near Turin, where the previous Opel Cabrio Astra (1993-99) and Kadett (1987-93) were manufactured, with sales of over 100,000.
