The Willment 427 Coupé: the last Ghia Supersonic
The Willment 427 Coupé, born from the vision of John Willment, a prominent racing team owner and the largest British Ford dealer of his time, represents a unique fusion of power and style. In 1965, Willment embarked on a bold endeavor, marrying the chassis of an AC 427 Cobra with the sleek body of a Fiat 8V Supersonic, which was no longer roadworthy. The chassis, procured from Shelby after they ceased production of coupe racing cars based on the Cobra, provided the perfect foundation for Willment’s ambitious project. However, adapting the Supersonic body to fit the Cobra chassis necessitated extensive modifications to the structure. Despite the challenges, Willment and his team persevered, creating a one-of-a-kind super sports car that would leave a lasting impression on automotive enthusiasts. Equipped with a Holman & Moody motor boasting approximately 480 horsepower, the Willment 427 Coupé was a force to be reckoned with on the road. With a reported top speed of around 200 mph, this powerhouse of a vehicle offered exhilarating performance matched only by its striking aesthetic. Over the years, the Willment 427 Coupé has exchanged hands and been offered for sale multiple times, each time attracting attention for its rarity and exceptional craftsmanship. It still has the Ghia badges on.
