SsangYong XIV-2
The SsangYong XIV-2 designed by I.DE.A Institute.
Vehicle Overview
The SsangYong XIV-2 designed by I.DE.A Institute, made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show as a premium convertible CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle), building upon the foundation laid by the XIV-1 show car, which was first unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA. The XIV-2, which stands for eXciting User Interface Vehicle 2, is designed to deliver a “special experience with fun,” particularly by offering a unique, exhilarating ‘wind in the hair’ experience for both drivers and passengers. This is made possible through its advanced convertible roof system, ideal for both on- and off-road adventures. Positioned as SsangYong’s strategic global model, the XIV-2 blends the versatility of a B-segment vehicle with the robustness of an SUV, ensuring it appeals to young drivers in their twenties. This focus on youth is evident in its dynamic design and features tailored through global design clinics. Environmental concerns are also addressed, with the XIV-2 featuring Euro VI-compliant 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and Idle Stop and Go (ISG) technology to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. The design of the XIV-2 follows SsangYong’s “Robust Aesthetics Realisation” philosophy, evolving from the XIV-1 with more progressive styling elements. The body combines the appeal of an urban SUV with the sleek, dynamic lines of a coupé, creating a striking silhouette. Carbon fibre trim further emphasizes the lightweight, nimble feel of the vehicle, while its aerodynamic shape targets active, young drivers. The fabric roof features a one-touch automatic system, making open-air driving an effortless experience. Inside, the SsangYong XIV-2 offers a refined, simple design with a focus on comfort and luxury. Red highlights on the dials underscore the car’s dynamic nature, and the central control system, operated via a console-mounted screen, integrates smart devices through an Auto User Interface, enhancing the in-car experience. The cabin offers ample space with four independent bucket seats, creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all passengers. With its blend of stylish design, innovative features, and driving enjoyment, the XIV-2 reflects SsangYong’s forward-thinking approach to automotive design.
