Renault 19
This hatchback saloon replaced the “9” and “11” models and was designed to increase export shares in this segment.
Vehicle Overview
The Renault 19 did not shine in the originality of its lines, but it certainly looked more modern than the models it was replacing. The line, designed in collaboration with Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign, was of the two-and-a-half hatchback type, similar in layout to that of the R11, compared to which the Renault 19 was, however, more aerodynamic thanks to the work on refining the lines, and in particular the front end, characterized by a grille that was practically absent and replaced by the extension of the engine hood, the latter being rather sloping. Also of simple design are the rectangular-shaped front headlights. The extreme linearity of the front end allowed the achievement of a Cx of 0.30. The wraparound bumper (again for aerodynamic needs) with integrated air intake brought a touch of punch to the view of the front of the car. The side, also simple and linear showed a not very high beltline, which made the body of the car more agile, while the tail, rather developed in height, was characterized by the wide tailgate equipped with a small integrated spoiler and square light clusters. The rear bumper also had a wraparound design.
