The Porsche S82 by Stola stands as a remarkable achievement, born out of the Stola family’s passion for automotive design and their collaboration with Porsche Design. Between 1999 and 2000, during their work on the Porsche Cayenne project under the guidance of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in Zell am See, Alfredo and Roberto Stola were inspired to create a prototype of their own, based on a Porsche platform. This vision began to materialize in the summer of 2000 when Dr. Bruno Alfieri, publisher of Automobilia, invited them to participate in the prestigious “The Most Beautiful Car in the World” exhibition at the Triennale in Milan. Recognizing the significance of this opportunity, the Stolas embarked on an ambitious project to develop a prototype, using the Porsche Boxster 986 as its foundation. The result, unveiled in March 2001, was the Porsche S82 Spyder. The S82 Spyder was designed to push the boundaries of performance and style. Built at a cost of approximately 800 million lire, the car featured a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, replacing the standard 3.2-liter. This modification delivered an impressive 450 horsepower, enabling a claimed top speed of 300 km/h. The driving experience was further enhanced by a lowered chassis and finely tuned suspension, providing race-level handling and responsiveness. What truly set the S82 apart was its attention to detail and the emotional connection it created for drivers. Starting the engine required pressing a central console button, a nod to classic sports car design. The roar of the engine, paired with the sound of the twin turbos, offered an immersive and exhilarating experience from the very first rev. Although there were initial plans to produce ten units, priced between 290 and 390 million lire depending on the configuration, the S82 Spyder ultimately remained a one-off masterpiece. Its unique blend of innovation, performance, and exclusivity has cemented its legacy as a standout creation in the world of bespoke automotive engineering.
