Vehicle Overview

Introduced in 1969, the 504 coupé and cabriolet were designed by Pinifarina, who opted for a completely new body for these variants, rather than limiting himself to a two-door version of the 504 with a cut roof. Furthermore, the platform used, albeit derived from that of the sedan, was characterized in both body variants by a wheelbase shortened by a good 19 cm (from 2.74 m to 2.55 m). As for the version with closed bodywork, it was a three volume coupé with a very streamlined and elegant appearance, with a slimmer and sharper front than that seen in the sedan and in the “estate” versions. On the sides of a grille cut in two by a row of three thin horizontal strips close together, there were the split quadrangular optical groups. The lines of the nose were also and above all drawn by the bonnet with its sloping forward shape. The wraparound windshield introduced the side, with streamlined lines for the time and pleasant even years after it went out of production. The rear part with a large rear window also sported a slightly sloping tail characterized by optical groups with three vertical elements. The same characteristics were also found in the 504 Cabriolet, with the obvious exception of the roof, pavilion and rear window, replaced by a soft top which did not detract from the elegance of the overall view.
