The Panhard Dyna X Sirio made its grand debut at the 1950 Turin Motor Show, marking an ambitious attempt to blend French engineering with Italian design sensibility. This unique coupé was the result of a collaboration between Panhard’s Italian importer, the Boroli family, and Carrozzeria Sirio, a coachbuilder more accustomed to crafting buses and truck trailers than sleek sports cars. Yet, against all odds, they produced a stylish and compact coupé that stood apart from its rather utilitarian Dyna X roots. The Sirio coupé retained the lightweight aluminum construction and advanced front-wheel-drive layout of the standard Dyna X but traded its quirky, functionalist body for a far more elegant Italian suit. With smoother lines, a more proportionate stance, and an overall refined aesthetic, it was an attempt to bring the Dyna X in line with contemporary Italian styling trends. Despite its promising looks, the Sirio remained a one-off prototype, as Panhard’s Italian distribution later changed hands, shifting focus toward motorsport rather than production cars. However, the idea of a “Dyna X with Italian flair” didn’t disappear entirely. Over the next few years, Carrozzeria Allemano and designer Giovanni Michelotti would explore different interpretations of the Dyna X, creating versions with a variety of grille designs and front-end treatments, some even featuring a bold third headlamp. While the Panhard Dyna X Sirio never entered production, it remains a fascinating footnote in automotive history—a glimpse at what could have been if French ingenuity and Italian artistry had truly joined forces on a larger scale.
