The Ford Osi 20M TS Coupé, designed by Sergio Sartorelli, was an innovative solution for Ford Europe in the mid-1960s. As the company was in the process of developing the iconic “Capri” model, a temporary offering was needed to maintain the brand’s sporty image. In a rapidly evolving sports car market, this was crucial for Ford’s reputation, as domestic and foreign competitors were making significant strides, despite the limited sales numbers of the segment. Ford turned to the Turin-based coachbuilder OSI (Officine Stampaggi Industriali) to create the Ford Osi 20M TS Coupé, which would serve as a stopgap until the Capri could be launched. The Osi 20M TS Coupé was based on the Ford 20M platform and produced between 1967 and 1968. The design, by Sergio Sartorelli; who was also behind the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34; was a departure from traditional Ford styling. The coupé featured sleek, aerodynamic lines, with an elegant yet sporty appearance that stood out in the market. The car was powered by either a two-liter V6 engine in 870 units or a 2.3-liter V6 engine in 409 units. Prices for the car ranged from 14,900 DM to 15,200 DM in Germany. Despite its innovative design and solid performance, the Osi 20M TS Coupé had a short lifespan. OSI went bankrupt in 1968, marking the end of the production of this model. Additionally, a convertible version was showcased at the 1967 Paris Salon, but it remained a one-off, never entering full-scale production. Although the Ford Osi 20M TS Coupé was not a long-lasting success, it remains an interesting chapter in Ford’s history, showcasing the company’s willingness to explore new designs and collaborations with Italian coachbuilders. The car’s design and limited production make it a rare and intriguing piece of automotive history.
