Maybach Exelero
The Maybach Exelero one-off: the 8 million $ prototype.
Vehicle Overview
The Maybach Exelero was a bespoke creation commissioned by Fulda, a subsidiary of Goodyear, to showcase their high-performance Carat Exelero tire range. This extravagant project followed Fulda’s earlier endeavor with the Gemballa Extremo in 1996, aimed at pushing the boundaries of automotive performance and tire technology. The Exelero drew inspiration from the classic Maybach SW 38 and utilized the platform of the Maybach 57, a luxurious and powerful base fitting for such an ambitious project. Fulda’s primary requirement was for the Exelero to exceed speeds of 350 km/h (217 mph), thereby testing the limits of the Carat Exelero tires under extreme conditions. The final design of the Exelero was conceived by four students from the Transportation Design School of Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences. The car was then meticulously assembled by Stola, a renowned coachbuilder based in Turin, Italy, ensuring that every detail met Fulda’s exacting specifications. In 2012, the Maybach Exelero gained further fame when American rapper Birdman purchased it for an astounding $8 million. Since then, ownership of this automotive masterpiece has passed to a private collector in Germany, underscoring its status as a prized collectible and a symbol of automotive innovation and luxury. The Maybach Exelero remains a rare and iconic testament to the collaboration between tire technology and automotive design, showcasing the pinnacle of engineering prowess and artistic vision in the automotive world.
