Maserati Quattroporte
The design of the fourth series of the Maserati Quattroporte was made by Marcello Gandini; the line is much more curvilinear, in homage to the fashion of the time and is the version in production at the time of the transfer of ownership of the Maserati brand, joined with that of Ferrari after the purchase by the Fiat Group. Built on the platform of the Biturbo, it was the most compact Quattroporte produced in history. Presented in 1994, the first series was replaced by the Evoluzione version in 1998, created under the impulse of Ferrari who took care of the quality and reliability of the model.
Vehicle Overview
The Maserati Quattroporte Gandini was one of the most compact sports saloons thanks to its overall length of only 4.55 meters and one of the most performing cars in the Quattroporte series. The basic structure compared to the original configuration was lengthened in the wheelbase while the width was unchanged; increasing the size of the car beyond 4.50 meters would have been too risky for automotive safety. The design was the work of Marcello Gandini following the style of the family feeling of the other cars in the range such as the Ghibli and the Shamal (also the latter born from Gandini’s pencil), the bodywork was optimized to significantly reduce aerodynamic drag, reaching a coefficient equal to 0.31. The low front with a small chrome grille and rectangular lights, the clean side characterized by semi-fairing rear wheels to increase the car’s aerodynamics and the high and massive tail made the Maserati Quattroporte Gandini very sporty. Thanks to the chrome plating, the complex is also elegant respecting the tradition of the house of the Trident.
