Maserati 4200 GT
The Maserati 4200 GT designed by Italdesign Giugiaro.
Vehicle Overview
The Maserati 4200 GT, also known as the Maserati Coupé, represents a significant evolution from its predecessor, the 3200 GT. One of the most notable changes lies in its engine, which now houses a different powerplant borrowed from the Spyder variant. Designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, who also lent his talents to iconic models like the Ghibli and Bora, the Coupé embodies Italian automotive elegance and performance. Giugiaro’s design prowess ensured that the Maserati Coupé retained the essence of its predecessors while incorporating modern aesthetics and engineering. The interior, masterfully crafted by Enrico Fumia, draws heavily from the 3200 GT but received a restyling in 1999 to enhance its allure. Produced at the esteemed Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, Italy, the Maserati Coupé epitomizes the craftsmanship and heritage associated with the brand. A total of 13,423 units rolled off the production line, each bearing the emblem of excellence synonymous with Maserati. Under the hood, the Maserati Coupé underwent a significant transformation, bidding farewell to the tried-and-tested 3.2-liter V8 biturbo engine of its predecessor. In its place, a newly developed 4.2-liter V8 engine sourced from Ferrari now roars to life. Crafted from lightweight materials, this V8 powerplant boasts dual overhead camshafts and churns out an impressive 287 kW (390 PS) of power, routed to the rear axle via a transaxle configuration. The performance credentials of the Maserati Coupé are further accentuated by its dynamic handling characteristics, courtesy of its well-balanced chassis and meticulously tuned suspension system. Whether cruising along scenic coastal roads or navigating winding mountain passes, the Coupé delivers a driving experience that is as exhilarating as it is refined. With its production span from late 2001 to mid-2007, the Maserati Coupé left an indelible mark on the automotive landscape, embodying the spirit of Italian motoring excellence. As it paved the way for the GranTurismo to follow, the Coupé remains a timeless icon, cherished by enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike for its blend of performance, luxury, and unmistakable style.
