Maserati 4200 GT
The Maserati 4200 GT designed by Italdesign Giugiaro.
Vehicle Overview
The Maserati 4200 GT, also known as the Maserati Coupé, marks a significant evolution from its predecessor, the 3200 GT, showcasing a refined blend of Italian design, performance, and luxury. One of the key upgrades in the 4200 GT is its engine, which now features a 4.2-liter V8 powerplant sourced from Ferrari, replacing the previous 3.2-liter V8 biturbo engine. This new engine delivers an impressive 287 kW (390 PS) of power, ensuring the Maserati 4200 GT offers exhilarating acceleration and dynamic performance. The V8 engine is paired with a transaxle configuration, delivering power to the rear axle, and is crafted from lightweight materials, enhancing both speed and efficiency. Designed by the renowned Italdesign Giugiaro, who also contributed to iconic Maserati models like the Ghibli and Bora, the Maserati 4200 GT retains the elegant styling of its predecessors while incorporating modern design elements. Giugiaro’s touch ensures the Maserati 4200 GT is a perfect balance of form and function, with sleek lines and a refined silhouette that exudes sophistication. Inside, the interior, which was masterfully crafted by Enrico Fumia, features elements inspired by the 3200 GT, while receiving a 1999 restyling to enhance its luxury appeal. Produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, Italy, the 4200 GT embodies the craftsmanship and heritage of the brand. A total of 13,423 units were produced from late 2001 to mid-2007, cementing the model as a key chapter in Maserati’s history. Its well-balanced chassis and finely tuned suspension system contribute to its superb handling, making the Maserati 4200 GT a thrilling drive on both winding mountain roads and open highways. The Maserati 4200 GT not only stood as a symbol of Italian automotive excellence but also paved the way for future Maserati models, including the GranTurismo. Its combination of high performance, luxury, and timeless style continues to make it a cherished icon among enthusiasts and collectors. Whether admired for its performance capabilities, stunning design, or its place in Maserati’s storied legacy, the 4200 GT remains a true testament to Italian motoring craftsmanship.
