Vehicle Overview
The Maserati 3500 GT Tight by Boneschi represents a significant chapter in the evolution of Italian automotive design. Unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1962, this prototype (chassis AM101.2500) marked the beginning of Boneschi’s unique interpretation of the Maserati 3500 GT. The following year, at the Geneva Motor Show, Boneschi introduced a refined version (chassis AM101.2724) that showcased several design enhancements. In the updated model, Boneschi made notable modifications that aligned with their emerging “linea tesa” design philosophy. The front fender relief was removed, and the air intake on the hood was redesigned, now divided into two separate sections. Additionally, the windshield line was lowered, contributing to a sleeker, more streamlined appearance. These subtle yet impactful changes improved the Maserati 3500 GT Tight’s aesthetics, setting it apart from earlier versions and showcasing Boneschi’s commitment to innovative design. Technically, the Maserati 3500 GT Tight retained the core elements of the 3500 GT. The chassis was a tubular structure with independent front suspension and a live rear axle, which remained consistent with previous models. However, the engine underwent significant development. It was a derivative of the 250F GP car engine, boasting a displacement of 3485cc and featuring two spark plugs per cylinder. This power unit produced an impressive 220 bhp, reflecting a performance-oriented approach that distinguished it from earlier iterations. Overall, the Maserati 3500 GT Tight by Boneschi exemplifies the intersection of advanced engineering and cutting-edge design. The modifications made to the prototype enhanced its visual appeal while maintaining the mechanical integrity of the Maserati 3500 GT. Boneschi’s work on the Maserati 3500 GT Tight not only advanced their “linea tesa” design concept but also contributed to the rich legacy of Italian automotive craftsmanship.
