Created as an homage to Lincoln’s storied design heritage, the Sentinel incorporated retro styling cues popular in the late 1990s while pushing the boundaries of modern automotive design. The Sentinel’s clean, sharp-edged profile and chrome-outlined details were directly inspired by the iconic 1961 Lincoln Continental, a vehicle celebrated for its timeless elegance. This influence extended to the center-opening doors, which paid tribute to the Continental’s signature “suicide doors,” creating a sense of grandeur and sophistication. The front end of the Sentinel reinterpreted elements from the 1940 Lincoln Continental, adding a bold, classic flair, while the dual exhausts integrated into the rear bumpers recalled the refined styling of the 1955 Continental. These references underscored the Sentinel’s role as a bridge between Lincoln’s storied past and its forward-looking aspirations. Designed by Tom Scott and built by Ghia in Turin, Italy, the Sentinel showcased Ford’s commitment to design innovation.
