The glories of the great Lincolns of the past come to life in this imposing sedan, reinterpreted from the point of view of the New Edge design. Conceived by the Advanced Design Ford of Dearborn and masterfully built by the Ghia ateliers, the Sentinel has been exhibited in some of the most prestigious “concours d’élégance” international.
The Lincoln Sentinel, a full-size, four-door, rear-wheel-drive luxury concept car that blends classic Lincoln styling themes with the Ford-inspired ‘New Edge’ approach to automotive design made its world debut at the 1996 North American International Auto Show. This 1996 concept car exhibits some of the “retro” design ideas popular in the late 1990s. The Lincoln Continental of 1961 inspired its clean, sharp-edged, chrome-outlined profile. The center-opening doors come from the same car. The front end is a re-interpretation of elements from the 1940 Continental, while the exhausts exiting from the rear bumpers recall the 1955 Continental. Designed by Tom Scott and build by Ghia in Turin (Italy), the Sentinel was a startling expression of Ford’s edge design ethos.
