The Lancia Florida II B56’s genesis is a tale of innovative design and personal passion. Following the unveiling of the Lancia Florida I, Pininfarina introduced the Florida II at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show. This car would become Battista “Pinin” Farina’s personal vehicle, highlighting its special significance. Built on the Lancia Aurelia B56 platform, the Florida II featured a 2870 mm wheelbase and was powered by a 2266 cm³ V-6 engine, producing 87 horsepower at 4,800 rpm. The engine was equipped with a double-barrel carburetor, ensuring efficient power delivery and performance. One of the most distinctive aspects of the Florida II was its door configuration. The car had three doors, with the rear door located on the driver’s side and opening against the wind. This unique design element gave the Pininfarina prototype the appearance of a coupé and was a precursor to the design solutions seen 55 years later on the Pininfarina Cambiano. Battista Farina’s choice to make the Florida II his personal car underscores its importance and the pride he took in its design. The Aurelia B56 not only showcased Pininfarina’s innovative approach to automotive design but also highlighted the seamless integration of style and functionality, making it a standout model in the history of Lancia and Pininfarina.
