Lancia Flaminia GTL Touring

The Lancia Flaminia GTL Touring: the 2+2 version.

Vehicle Overview

The Lancia Flaminia GTL Touring, introduced in 1963, was a refined and stylish evolution of the earlier Flaminia GT, offering a more practical 2+2 seating configuration compared to its two-seater sibling. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, the GTL featured several modifications aimed at increasing comfort and functionality while maintaining the elegant, understated design that Lancia was known for. One of the key differences between the GT and the GTL was the wheelbase, which was lengthened by 80 mm, providing additional space for rear passengers, although the overall length of the car only grew by 30 mm. The GTL also had a 70-mm increase in height, which gave the cabin a more airy and spacious feel, improving overall comfort for passengers. This increase in height and the added wheelbase length allowed the Flaminia GTL Touring to offer a more practical and accommodating driving experience while retaining the charm and luxury expected of a grand tourer. In terms of performance, the Flaminia GTL was powered by a refined 2.8-litre V6 engine with triple Weber double-downdraft carburettors, delivering 150 bhp. This engine was part of an updated lineup for the Flaminia series, which had seen improvements in power over earlier models. While the Flaminia GTL was not as power-hungry as some of its Italian contemporaries from Modena and Maranello, it excelled in terms of handling, build quality, and overall refinement. The over-engineered and over-built nature of the Flaminia line ensured that it provided a smooth and refined driving experience that made it an excellent grand tourer for long journeys. With a total production of 303 units, the Flaminia GTL Touring is a rare and highly sought-after collector’s car. The model was produced in two main configurations: the earlier 2.5-litre version (Chassis 824.16 GTL 3C), producing 140 horsepower, and the later 2.8-litre version (Chassis 826.140 GTL 3C), which delivered 150 horsepower and remained in production from 1963 to 1965. This rarity and the impeccable quality of craftsmanship make the Lancia Flaminia GTL Touring a coveted piece of automotive history.
