The Lancia Delta Integrale Cabriolet one-off was built by Zagato for Gianni Agnelli.
The Lancia Delta Integrale Cabriolet, a one-off creation by Carrozzeria Zagato Milano, holds a special place in automotive history as a unique commission for Gianni Agnelli, the influential Italian industrialist. The story behind this bespoke vehicle began in early 1992 when Agnelli expressed his desire for a convertible version of the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale, famously stating, “Voglio una Delta cabrio per andare a Saint Moritz!”; translated “I want a Delta convertible to go to Saint Moritz!” a request that set the stage for this extraordinary project. Rodolfo Rossi, a seasoned professional with a long career at Fiat and later the Director of the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile “Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia” in Turin, was tasked with fulfilling Agnelli’s vision. Rossi, who had previously overseen the development of the Delta Integrale in competition, was now called upon to transform the four-door Delta Integrale into a two-door cabriolet. While Agnelli’s request seemed straightforward—simply removing the roof—the actual task was considerably more complex and required meticulous engineering and craftsmanship. The result was a striking Lancia Delta Integrale Cabriolet, distinguished by its grey bodywork, blue fabric soft top, and luxurious leather interior. Under the hood, the car retained the powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 250 horsepower, ensuring that it offered the performance expected of the Delta Integrale lineage. The construction of this one-off vehicle took a remarkably short six months, reflecting the urgency and dedication of the team. Once completed, the Cabriolet was delivered directly to Saint Moritz, where Agnelli enjoyed it during the summer of 1992. After its brief period of use, the car was promptly placed into the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile.
