The Lancia Aurelia B52 Frua is one of the rare and unique creations designed by Pietro Frua for the Lancia brand. In 1952, Frua presented two distinct 4-door hatchbacks based on the Lancia Aurelia, a luxury car known for its advanced engineering and V6 engine. These models were quite innovative for their time, as they were among the first hatchback-style cars, blending the practicality of a four-door sedan with the versatility of a rear hatch. The first of the two Frua-designed Aurelia B52s featured the classic Lancia grille, which is synonymous with the brand’s design language at the time, evoking elegance and refinement. The second model, chassis B52-1017, however, had a more striking and unusual American-style grille that spanned the entire width of the front end, lending it a distinct and bold appearance that stood apart from other Lancia vehicles of the period. Both models were designed to be functional and stylish, embodying the blend of Italian craftsmanship and the emerging automotive trends of the time. Unfortunately, very few of these vehicles were produced, and most of them have since disappeared, making the Lancia Aurelia B52 Frua an extremely rare and collectible piece of automotive history. Given that only a handful of these cars were made, and the fact that they were designed as one-offs, the Lancia Aurelia B52 Frua is considered a unique and significant part of Pietro Frua’s limited work with Lancia.
