The Lancia Aurelia B52 B Junior by Carrozzeria Ghia.
The Lancia Aurelia B52 B Junior, a product of the creative genius of Gian Paolo Boano, marked a significant milestone in the realm of automotive design. Boano, the son of renowned designer Mario Boano, made his debut with this stunning creation at Ghia, presenting it to the world at the Turin Motor Show in 1953. During the 1950s, the landscape of automotive design was evolving, with coachbuilders transitioning away from crafting individual cars to collaborating with manufacturers on limited-production models. Lancia, in particular, produced a mere 98 chassis designated as B52 for coachbuilders during the Aurelia model’s production run. While most of these chassis found their way to Pininfarina, a select few were entrusted to other esteemed companies such as Vignale and Ghia. Among these, Carrozzeria Ghia had the privilege of working on two Aurelia B52 B Junior models, bearing chassis numbers 1055 and 1061. Powered by potent 1991 cc six-cylinder V-engines, the Aurelia B52 B Junior boasted rear-wheel drive, delivering a thrilling driving experience synonymous with the Lancia brand. Ghia’s masterful craftsmanship extended beyond the Aurelia, as they also utilized the same body design on Fiat 1400 and 1900 chassis, showcasing their versatility and innovation in automotive styling. The Aurelia B52 B Junior exemplifies the pinnacle of collaboration between manufacturers and coachbuilders during an era marked by creativity and experimentation. Its timeless design, coupled with its exceptional performance, solidifies its status as a true automotive masterpiece, leaving an indelible mark on the history of design and engineering.
