Crafted in 1957, this car features a lightweight aluminum body designed by Carrozzeria Motto, an esteemed coachbuilder known for creating elegant and race oriented sporty coupés. The car’s vibrant red exterior and fixed-head coupé style reflect the era’s penchant for sleek and aerodynamic lines. Inside, the car is equipped with black seats, complementing the striking exterior. The engine, numbered 814000.1014, was manufactured by LANCIA SPA and is a V-type 10° 14′, with an engine block and sump made from duraluminium, highlighting the advanced engineering practices of the time. The car debuted in 1957 and garnered attention in automotive media, including an appearance in L’Auto Italiana in May of that year. Registered under plate MI-433272, it was initially owned by Alessandro Zanetti from July 1959. During its early years, the car passed through the hands of several owners, including Floriundo Fantoni, Raimondo Ferrara, Mercedes Bonetti, and Maria Dell’Angelo. Between 1964 and 1989, the car was owned by Alessandro Corti, registered with plate MI-927182. After a long period of ownership, it changed hands to Antonio Crippa in 1989 and received its ASI identification that same year. In 1993, it was acquired by Gabriele Arnaboldi, who maintained it for nearly three decades. In August 2021, the car was sold at the Automobili sportive e da competizione event in Imola for €144,999. The car underwent a restoration process in 2022, preserving its heritage and aesthetic appeal. Currently, the Lancia Appia Coupé Motto is housed within a private collection, representing a remarkable chapter in Lancia’s storied history. This model exemplifies the harmonious blend of performance and craftsmanship that Carrozzeria Motto and Lancia SPA achieved, making it a prized piece for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
