Vehicle Overview
The Jaguar B99 GT represented the GT2 racing variant derived from the Jaguar B99 concept by Bertone, showcased at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Directed by Mike Robinson, this iteration was markedly wider and lower than its standard counterpart, measuring 500 mm (19.7 in) wider and 100 mm (3.9 in) lower. Unlike the standard B99, the GT version was primarily a design mock-up, lacking interior fittings and mechanical components. The concept envisioned the addition of two electric motors to achieve a four-wheel-drive configuration, significantly boosting its power output to a staggering 972 bhp (725 kW; 985 PS). This transformation included fitting a robust roll cage, emphasizing its intended use for high-performance racing. Mike Robinson creatively dubbed both variants of the B99 as “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,” with the GT version aptly earning the moniker “Mr Hyde.” This designation highlighted its aggressive racing persona, contrasting sharply with the more refined and conceptual “Dr Jekyll.” While the Jaguar B99 GT remained a conceptual exploration rather than a fully functional vehicle, it epitomized Bertone’s penchant for pushing design boundaries and imagining innovative automotive solutions. The concept of enhancing the B99 with electric motors and transforming it into a formidable GT2 racing contender underscored Bertone’s visionary approach to blending cutting-edge technology with striking design aesthetics.
