Vehicle Overview
The Fioravanti Nuova Piccola emerged from an ambitious idea: to design a symmetrical car door that could open in both directions, either from the front or the rear. This concept was not only innovative but also technically challenging. However, with the visionary ideas of Leonardo Fioravanti, the expertise of engineer Gottardo Bustreo, and the creativity of the STOLA designers, the team embarked on an intensive technical study. Their work culminated in a revolutionary design that was eventually patented by Fioravanti srl. The journey of the Nuova Piccola began in March 1994, when Leonardo Fioravanti visited STOLA spa in Rivoli and proposed this bold research project. He envisioned a new kind of door that would redefine functionality and style, presenting unique possibilities for vehicle design. The project’s name, “Nuova Piccola” (New Small), reflected the idea’s forward-looking nature while also referencing the compact nature of the concept. The task required the construction of a styling model that featured functional, symmetrical doors capable of opening in both directions—an innovation that had never been attempted before. With determination and collaboration, the team pushed boundaries. The result was a breakthrough in automotive engineering, representing a harmonious blend of aesthetics and practicality. Fioravanti’s design philosophy was always centered on combining technical ingenuity with elegant styling, and the Nuova Piccola exemplified this ethos. This groundbreaking concept was brought to life in the form of the Nyce concept car, which was unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1996. The Nyce served as a platform to showcase the revolutionary door system to the automotive world, marking a milestone in automotive design and engineering. The presentation captured the attention of the industry, highlighting the creative possibilities unlocked by Fioravanti’s innovation. The Fioravanti Nuova Piccola remains a testament to the power of collaboration, bold ideas, and the pursuit of pushing design boundaries to create something truly original.
