The Fiat Uno Spiaggina concept car, based on the series-production Fiat Uno, was unveiled by Carrozzeria Maggiora at the 1988 Turin Auto Show. Designed as a playful and open-air vehicle, it embraced the spirit of classic beach cars, offering a fresh take on Fiat’s practical city model. With its minimalist styling and relaxed aesthetic, the Spiaggina was an invitation to sun-soaked coastal drives, reminiscent of the carefree charm of earlier Fiat beach cars like the Jolly. Built on the familiar Fiat Uno platform, the Spiaggina stood out with its airy design and vacation-ready appeal. Two years later, in 1990, Maggiora revisited the Fiat Uno with another open-top proposal, this time introducing a cabriolet version. Unlike the Spiaggina, which leaned into the world of specialty beach cars, the cabriolet followed a more traditional path, offering a full-fledged soft-top convertible that blended style with everyday usability. Though neither the Spiaggina nor the cabriolet entered mass production, both concepts showcased the ingenuity of Italian coachbuilders. Maggiora’s work highlighted how even a practical economy car could be reimagined into something unique, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary with creativity and flair.
