The The Fiat Punto Grama 2 by Carrozzeria Maggiora.
The Fiat Punto Grama 2 is a unique prototype car created by the Italian coachbuilder Maggiora. It features the bodywork of the Fiat Punto, which has been significantly modified, enlarged, and strengthened to accommodate an upgraded performance package. Maggiora fitted this custom Punto with the mechanics from the powerful Lancia Dedra Integrale, including its four-cylinder 2.0 Turbo engine. This engine boasts an impressive output of 119 kW (162 hp), delivering robust power that significantly elevates the Punto’s driving dynamics. Maggiora’s choice to combine the Fiat Punto’s compact design with the Lancia Dedra Integrale’s robust mechanical setup resulted in a car that brings rally-like performance to a compact, street-oriented vehicle. The Fiat Punto Grama 2’s design process involved heavy structural modifications to the Punto’s body to handle the increase in power and torque provided by the turbocharged engine. These reinforcements also addressed the added strain from the Integrale’s advanced all-wheel-drive system, which offered exceptional grip and stability, essential for handling the turbocharged engine’s output. The Grama 2 builds on the success of the Fiat Punto GT, which was already a popular performance version of the Punto, known for its turbocharged engine and sporty handling. Following the GT’s popularity, various Italian coachbuilders began creating limited-edition and prototype models based on the Punto, experimenting with upgraded engines, advanced drivetrains, and reworked body designs. These bespoke builds showcased the Punto’s adaptability as a platform, especially with enhancements that took inspiration from Lancia’s rally heritage. Maggiora’s Grama 2 represents a unique blend of Fiat’s accessible design with the high-performance, rally-bred engineering of Lancia. Though it remained a prototype, the Grama 2 demonstrated the potential of integrating advanced performance mechanics into compact platforms and left a mark in automotive history as a symbol of Italian ingenuity and the excitement that custom coachbuilders could bring to familiar models like the Fiat Punto. This fusion of Fiat’s accessibility and Lancia’s rally spirit resulted in a thrilling vehicle that continues to inspire enthusiasts.
