Fiat Gobi

The Fiat Gobi built by Carrozzeria Maggiora.

Vehicle Overview

The Fiat Gobi was unveiled by Carrozzeria Maggiora at the 1984 Turin Motor Show. It got its name from a desert, aimed to better enhance or emphasize the Fiat Panda 4×4 model presented in 1983. It used the same Panda chassis and mechanics, same inclinations and tracks, the axis of the steering wheel, pedals and position of the occupants have obviously been maintained. The Gobi was indeed a mini pickup with a rigid and removable rear roof. The project also presented some interesting innovations and upgrades like a more inclinated hood in order to respect the pedestrian impact regulation. The lights were rigidly anchored to the frame and protected by a grille, same for the taillights. The obliquely cut hood allowed excellent access to the mechanical part and could tilt upwards. The vehicle was functional.
