Fiat Bravo Armadillo
The Fiat Bravo Armadillo by Carrozzeria Maggiora.
Vehicle Overview
The Fiat Bravo Armadillo, unveiled at the 1996 Turin Motor Show, is a unique mini-MPV featuring a 3+2 seating configuration, a flat interior floor, and an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.17. Based on the Fiat Bravo platform, the Armadillo was designed by Fiat’s in-house Centro Stile (Ermanno Cressoni) in collaboration with specialist coachbuilders Maggiora. The Armadillo was conceived as a low-drag, anthropomorphically-styled city car, emphasizing a friendly and approachable aesthetic. The design contest organized by Fiat for the presentation of the Fiat Bravo invited various innovative proposals, and the Armadillo stood out for its focus on aerodynamic efficiency and practical urban mobility. The vehicle’s flexible and spacious interior design aimed to cater to the needs of city dwellers, providing ample room for passengers and cargo within a compact footprint. The flat interior floor enhanced the sense of space and made the cabin more versatile, suitable for a variety of uses from daily commuting to small family outings. Maggiora’s involvement in the project ensured that the Armadillo not only looked appealing but also performed well in urban environments. The low drag coefficient of 0.17 highlighted the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency, contributing to improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, which are critical factors for city cars. The Fiat Bravo Armadillo exemplified how thoughtful design and engineering could create a vehicle that is both practical and environmentally friendly. Its friendly appearance, combined with its innovative interior layout and aerodynamic prowess, made it a notable entry in the Fiat Bravo design contest. This concept car demonstrated Fiat and Maggiora’s commitment to exploring new ideas and pushing the boundaries of what a city car could be, merging style, function, and efficiency in a single, compact package.
