The Fiat 600 Coupé Viotti designed by Michelotti.
The Fiat 600 Coupé Viotti is a fascinating gem from the golden era of Italian automotive design. Created by the imaginative Giovanni Michelotti for Carrozzeria Viotti, this rare and luxurious version of the beloved Fiat 600 debuted at the 1955 Turin Motor Show. It offered a distinctive blend of elegance, innovation, and exclusivity that set it apart from its more common counterpart. What truly made the 600 Coupé Viotti special were its innovative features and stylish touches. It boasted a panoramic windshield that not only enhanced visibility but also added a sleek, modern aesthetic. The rear window, made using the patented “Visaterm” technology, provided excellent insulation, and the door windows could be completely lowered, a rare convenience for its time. Inside, comfort was key, with adjustable, foam-padded front seats, modest rear seating, and premium upholstery in panno fabric paired with faux leather for a refined finish. The car’s exterior was equally impressive. A distinctive side air intake directly cooled the engine bay, and stylish chrome “Turbina” wheels complemented the sleek profile. Functional details, like patented “Rothel” door locks, directional indicators on all sides, and a larger 27-liter fuel tank, added practicality. Thermal and acoustic insulation ensured a quieter, more comfortable ride, while 12-inch whitewall tires and enveloping bumpers enhanced its sophisticated look. Available in nine eye-catching color combinations, the Fiat 600 Coupé Viotti was a true luxury offering. At a list price of 950,000 lire—about €35,000 in today’s terms—it was nearly twice the cost of a standard Fiat 600 and considerably pricier than other customized versions like the “600 Elaborata.” Despite its appeal, production was limited to around 100 units, making it an exceptionally rare find today. With only about 20 surviving examples, this unique car is a testament to Italian craftsmanship and a prized piece of automotive history. For collectors and enthusiasts, the 600 Coupé Viotti remains a timeless icon of innovation and style.
