The Fiat 509 S Zagato: one of three.
The Fiat 509 S Zagato is a rare and prestigious automobile, one of only three Fiat 509 S models ever bodied by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Zagato. Chassis number 32022673 was purchased by Rigoletto Belli, a Fiat dealer from Terni, who was also a successful gentleman driver in the racing world during the era. The car was given the number TR1000, a registration it has maintained throughout the years, a testament to its enduring legacy. Originally registered on October 18, 1926, in Brescia, the Fiat 509 S remained in the region until 1928. Between late 1928 and 1930, the car changed hands three times, with registrations in Mantova, Verona, and Vicenza. From 1930 to 1935, it had its sixth owner, before being acquired by its seventh owner, who kept it until 1960. During this period, the car underwent several changes, yet it remained a cherished piece of automotive history. In the early 1960s, the Fiat 509 S was purchased by Gianluigi Saccardo, a Milanese collector known for his passion for pre-war automobiles. Under Saccardo’s ownership, the car gained significant attention, being featured in numerous publications, including the prestigious work of automotive historian Tito Anselmi, *Cento italiane vive*. This exposure solidified the car’s place in the annals of automotive history, further cementing its value among collectors. The Fiat 509 S Zagato was later passed to the Artom brothers, who eventually sold it to the penultimate owner, Paolo Forti, in 1972. Forti, a dedicated enthusiast, preserved the car for over 20 years, participating in numerous rallies and events. His stewardship ensured the car remained in excellent condition, further adding to its impressive provenance.
