Vehicle Overview

The Fiat 1500 6C Aerlux by Carrozzeria Touring represents a unique blend of Italian innovation and aerodynamic design from the mid-20th century. The Fiat 1500, a six-cylinder car produced from 1935 to 1950, was one of the first vehicles to undergo wind tunnel testing, setting a new standard for aerodynamic efficiency in touring cars. This sleek design challenged the prevailing belief that aerodynamically styled vehicles would not appeal to consumers, proving that elegance and performance could coexist in a mainstream automobile. In 1939, Fiat introduced an improved second series of the 1500, known as the Fiat 1500 B, continuing its tradition of naming updates with successive letters. From 1935 to 1948, Carrozzeria Touring of Milan built the 6C Berlinetta Superleggera on the various iterations of the Fiat 1500 chassis, including the B, C, and D models. The limited production run featured several prototypes, combining elements of trim and design from various versions, but the overarching aesthetic—a fluid, elegant coupé—remained consistent. This design echoed Touring’s grand approach to the Alfa Romeo 6C Berlinettas, demonstrating their signature balance of form and function. The 1500 6C Aerlux trim was particularly distinguished by its large glass sunroof, a feature that set it apart from other models. This expansive sunroof, termed “Aerlux,” was a unique touch that Touring applied not only to the Fiat 1500 but also to other cars from different brands, emphasizing an airy, luxurious feel that was uncommon at the time. Touring’s Superleggera construction method, which involved the use of ultralight alloys and aluminum panels over a cage-like steel frame, was a key factor in the car’s performance and aesthetic appeal. This patented design not only reduced weight, enhancing the car’s speed and handling, but also contributed to its sleek, streamlined appearance. The result was a vehicle that combined cutting-edge engineering with an unmistakable Italian elegance, setting a standard for luxury touring cars. The Fiat 1500 6C Aerlux by Carrozzeria Touring remains a testament to the era’s spirit of innovation. It showcases Touring’s expertise in merging advanced aerodynamics with stylish design, and it stands as an example of how Italian coachbuilders were at the forefront of automotive artistry, influencing car design for decades to come.

The Fiat 1500 6C Aerlux by Carrozzeria Touring. The Fiat 1500 was a six-cylinder car produced by Fiat from 1935 to 1950. It was one of the first cars tested in a wind tunnel. The sleek style allowed an aerodynamic efficiency unique in a touring car and disproved the idea that aerodynamic vehicles would not sell well. An improved, second series model was introduced in 1939 distinguished, as it was Fiat’s custom at the time, by a letter added to the model name: Fiat 1500 B. Between 1935 and 1948, Touring built the 6C Berlinetta Superleggera on FIAT 1500, FIAT 1500 B, C and D chassis. Several prototypes for the Fiat 1500 Touring Berlinetta were produced, but the limited run of cars produced resulted in combining the trim and design details of all of them. However, the basic shape remained the same: a fluid, elegant coupé, along with the lines of Touring Berlinetta’s grand design for the Alfa Romeo 6C. Carrozzeria Touring of Milan patented the Superleggera design using ultralight alloys and components with aluminium panels over a cage-like steel frame. This Aerolux trim is a partcular version fitted with a big glass sunroof, that was also used by Touring on other brands.
