Sergio Sartorelli: Designer of Dreams
Designer Sergio Sartorelli was born in Alessandria in 1928; he took the degree in Mechanical Engineering at the “Politecnico” of Turin and soon became interested in cars.
The Fiat 1200 Spider OSI was produced by OSI, which was founded in 1960 by the boss of Ghia, Luigi Segre, to build special series on behalf of coachbuilders and manufacturers, starting with Ghia, Innocenti and Fiat. The Osi 1200 S had a Fiat engine and the bodywork was designed by Giovanni Michelotti. This model would only have 28 examples built, making it one of the most limited series ever made!
The Fiat 1200 Spider OSI is one of Michelotti’s many design creations. Back then, car builders could buy a chassis with all mechanical components directly from Fiat, and then dress it accordingly. Like many of the special cars built in Italy during that period, the Fiat 1200 Spider OSI is an open spider built on a Fiat platform; in this case by OSI using the chassis and engine of the Fiat 1100D which, despite its name, had a 1,200cc engine. Although OSI ceased coachbuilding activities in 1968, it did leave its little mark in the annuls of automotive history.
