The Fiat 1100 TV Ghia: In the in-house workshop for special bodies “Fiat Carrozzerie Speciali”, were initially produced in small numbers, very pretty, but strongly influenced by the current American tastes of the time, small Spiders called “1100 TV Trasformabile”. The same floor assemblies obviously went to Italian coachbuilders like Vignale or Ghia, which used them to build beautiful coupés with clean and simple lines. American references were also unmistakable used here. A few years before the TV coupés, Ghia had developed two breathtakingly concept vehicles for Chrysler, which were “not vulgar enough” to go into series production: the Chrysler Ghia Special GS-1 and the Ghia DeSoto Adventurer. The formal language of these design attempts later returned to Europe in the form of the small TV coupés. And even the version of the Fiat 8V Coupé styled by Mario Boano for Ghia in 1953 makes use of this design language. It can therefore be assumed that Boano’s influence is also responsible for the shape of the Fiat 1100 TV Ghia, although he probably had already left Ghia at that time. While the sleek shape of the Otto-Vu and the American concept cars had befitting eight-cylinders, the Fiat TV Coupés had a small four-cylinder in-line engine. After all, it achieved 50 hp – a lean 14 hp or a strong 40 percent more power than a Standard 1100 at that time. 6 Fiat 1100 TV Ghia were built.
