The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast III by Pininfarina.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast III, chassis 2207SA, was built in October 1960 as part of a groundbreaking evolution of Ferrari’s Superfast series. Initially conceived as the Superfast II, this car was a one-off prototype with a striking Pininfarina Aerodinamico coupe body. Its design features a 2420mm wheelbase and was originally painted in Max Meyer 12435 white with black accents. Beneath the sleek exterior lay the heart of the car, a tipo 163 engine, marking it as one of Ferrari’s finest creations for high-speed performance and luxury. The Superfast II debuted at the 1961 Torino Motor Show in November. With a fresh light metallic green and red paint scheme, it captivated onlookers. As Ferrari continued refining the design, the car was re-engineered once again in 1962 and unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The Superfast III underwent further refinement, boasting enhanced aerodynamics and an elegant appearance that drew inspiration from Ferrari’s racing legacy. In its final form, the car was repainted Italver evening blue with natural leather upholstery, presenting a stunning combination of classic elegance and modern sophistication. This was the culmination of Ferrari’s efforts to combine beauty with speed, pushing the boundaries of what a luxury grand tourer could be. The car eventually passed through several owners, including Nicolo Oronzo de Nora in Milan, before making its way to the United States. Over the years, the car was carefully maintained and repainted, including a transformation to metallic blue with cream interior. Ownership passed through several collectors, including prominent names like Luke Fratello in Los Angeles, Paul Sanders, and Darlene Vicky & Donald Pearce Shiley. In the 1990s, it was offered for sale by Tiziano Carugati, a well-known Swiss Ferrari specialist, and later by Jean Guikas, who had the car refinished in dark blue metallic. Lee Herrington, a respected Ferrari collector, acquired the Superfast III in 2005, restoring it to its original specifications. Under Herrington’s care, the car was displayed at major concours events, including the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2015, where it earned recognition in the Ferrari Grand Touring category. The Superfast III represents the pinnacle of Ferrari’s grand tourer lineage, a perfect blend of power, style, and craftsmanship that defined Ferrari’s engineering excellence during the golden era of automotive design.
