The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast II by Pininfarina.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast II, chassis 2207SA, was built in October 1960 as a one-off prototype with an aerodynamic Pininfarina coupe body. Designed by Aldo Brovarone at Pininfarina (PF job no. 29403) and originally painted Max Meyer 12435 white with black accents, it featured a tipo 163 engine and a 2420mm wheelbase. The car debuted at the 1960 Turin Motor Show from October 3 to 13. On May 19, 1961, it was registered to Battista Farina in Torino under the plate TO 381641. It was later repainted silver grey and exhibited again at the Torino Motor Show in November of that year. In 1961, it was redesigned as Superfast III with updated styling and a new light metallic green and red paint scheme before being displayed at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show from March 15 to 25. The car was later transformed into Superfast IV and refinished in Italver evening blue with a natural leather interior. On August 2, 1962, it was sold to Nicolo Oronzo de Nora in Milan. At some point, it was repainted metallic blue with a cream interior before making its way to the United States. By 1972, it was owned by Luke Fratello in Los Angeles. In 1975, it passed to Paul Sanders of Redondo Beach, California. In 1983, it was offered for sale by Bobileff Motor Cars in San Diego and was later acquired on June 16 by Darlene Vicky and Donald Pearce Shiley, registered under “575 KYH” in California. The car was later exported to Europe, where a Dutch title was issued on April 6, 1988. It was painted gold metallic and owned by a Belgian collector associated with Autohandel van der Velden, bearing the registration “GJF 450.” That same year, it was displayed at the FCN Ferrari Show in Rosmalen. It appeared at auctions in Monaco on November 11, 1989, where it failed to sell at a high bid of DM 2.09 million ($988,836), and again at the Prestige Geneva auction on March 14, 1990, where it reached a high bid of $1,059,600 but remained unsold. It was later withdrawn from a Paris auction in December 1991. In 1992, it was acquired by Tiziano Carugati in Geneva, Switzerland, who offered it for sale in September for $480,000. By the late 1990s, Jean Becquet of France took ownership, and in 2000, Jean Guikas of Marseille, through GTC Sarl, acquired it and repainted it dark blue metallic. It was displayed at the Louis Vuitton Classic in Bagatelle on September 9 and 10 of that year. On December 17, 2005, it was purchased by Lee Herrington of Bow, New Hampshire, through Marcel Massini. In August 2006, it underwent restoration at Wayne Obry’s Motion Products to return it to its Superfast III configuration. Under Herrington’s ownership, the car made appearances at the XXII Cavallino Classic on January 21, 2012, the Amelia Island Concours on March 15, 2015, and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16, 2015, in Class M1 for Ferrari Grand Touring. The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast II evolved through multiple design iterations, serving as a crucial prototype in Ferrari’s grand touring history.
