The Touring Berlinetta Lusso: a coachbuilt special Ferrari F12
Vehicle Overview
The Touring Berlinetta Lusso is a tailor-made, hand-crafted masterpiece that debuted in 2015 at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show. Based on the F12 Berlinetta, it embodies the perfect fusion of tradition, innovation, and exclusivity. “There’s no need to conceal or overdesign,” remarked Louis de Fabribeckers, head of Touring Superleggera‘s design team. “We keep applying the original Touring design philosophy: the volume defines us and shows us our path.” Inspired by the legendary 1950s Ferrari 166 MM, designed for racing, the Berlinetta Lusso was conceived as a luxurious Grand Tourer. Touring Superleggera left the Ferrari F12’s mechanical, electrical, and powertrain systems untouched, ensuring it retained the stellar performance of its naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 engine. This powerhouse delivers 740 horsepower through a 7-speed sequential gearbox with paddle-shift control, creating a seamless and thrilling driving experience. Touring improved upon the F12’s chassis, which uses 12 different types of alloy, by reducing weight and increasing torsional stiffness by 20%. The reimagined bodywork—crafted with Touring’s signature coachbuilding expertise—includes a new bonnet, boot lid, rear diffuser, and apron. These aluminum panels were hand-beaten using traditional techniques, showcasing the artistry that defines Touring Superleggera. Carbon fiber is used extensively for elements such as the bonnet, front bumper, skirts, tailgate, and rear diffuser, blending craftsmanship with cutting-edge materials. Each of the five Berlinetta Lusso cars was built for individual clients who provided their own Ferrari F12 Berlinetta as the starting point. Over 5,000 hours of meticulous work went into each car, with customers deeply involved in every customization detail. Touring Superleggera emphasizes, “At Touring, there is no such thing as an option list. Our customer’s individual taste shall guide our path.” Every Berlinetta Lusso body was drawn and sculpted entirely by hand, featuring flowing lines and a sculptural waistline that wraps elegantly from the front wheel arch to the rear—a hallmark of Touring’s design since its inception. Manufactured at Touring’s workshop near Milan, this extraordinary collaboration between Touring and Ferrari represents the ultimate expression of luxury, craftsmanship, and exclusivity.
