Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 625 TF Coupé Vignale Chassis #0302TF has a fascinating and somewhat mysterious history. Built in 1953, it was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and bodied by Carrozzeria Vignale, creating a stunning Berlinetta that showcased the elegance and performance Ferrari was known for. Powered by a 735cc engine, the car was aimed at competing in prestigious racing events, and it was soon associated with Scuderia Guastalla, a Milan-based racing team. The car was driven by Franco Cornacchia in various races, including the GP Senigallia in August 1953. Cornacchia was a prominent Italian driver at the time, and he raced the car in several competitions that year. Sadly, the Ferrari 625 TF suffered a tragic fate when it was destroyed in a fire later in 1953. This catastrophic event seemed to end the car’s career prematurely, but it led to further speculation and confusion regarding its future. After the fire, reports suggest that the car may have been rebodied, with some sources claiming it was transformed into a one-off Spyder by the renowned coachbuilder Scaglietti. However, there’s a lack of clarity on whether 0302TF was indeed the car that was rebodied or if it was another Ferrari, such as 0406MD. This confusion arose partly due to the appearance of a car with similar modifications at the 12h Casablanca in December 1953, making it difficult to determine which chassis had undergone the transformation. If 0302TF was rebodied, it didn’t fade into obscurity. The car continued to make waves on the racing circuit, achieving notable results throughout 1954. In December 1953, it finished 2nd OA in the 12h Casablanca. The following year, in February 1954, it won 1st in the S2.0 category at the GP di Agadir, and it went on to achieve further victories in events such as the Corsa sulle Torricelle and the IV Circuit de Marrakech in 1954. The car also participated in the Mille Miglia in May 1954, where it finished 2nd OA and 2nd IC with Vittorio Marzotto driving. Other notable results followed, including a 6th-place finish at the 10h di Messina in July 1954, with Giulio Musitelli and Franco Cortese sharing driving duties. By 1955, however, the car’s fortunes began to wane. It was involved in a clutch failure during the Daily Herald International at Oulton Park in August 1955, and after that, its competitive presence diminished. There were further appearances in 1955, including a race at the Circuito di Reggio Calabria, but the car’s overall racing history seemed to come to an end soon after. It was rumored that 0302TF was involved in a crash during practice for the Mille Miglia in 1955, and after that, its racing career came to an abrupt halt. Despite these challenges, 0302TF remains a significant chapter in Ferrari’s history, particularly due to its unique design and the mystery surrounding its rebodied form. The car’s journey from its creation in 1953, its tragic fire, and its eventual transformation and racing success, solidifies its place in Ferrari lore, even if the details remain clouded in mystery.
