Ferrari 375 MM PF Berlinetta 0490AM

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 375 MM PF Berlinetta chassis 0490AM is an extraordinary and rare example of Ferrari’s automotive artistry, combining cutting-edge design with performance. Built in 1955, this car is one of only seven 375 MM Coupe Speciale Pininfarinas ever produced. It stands out not only for its rarity but also for its striking two-tone color scheme, featuring ivory with a deep blue roof and a tan fender line that closely resembles the forthcoming Ferrari Tour de France (TdF) models, complete with tail fins extending along the rear. The car was initially entered into Pininfarina plant in March 1955 and was showcased as the Torino show car in April-May of the same year, where it garnered considerable attention for its unique design. The car’s refined styling was a collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina, resulting in a sophisticated yet dynamic look. Its rear end, featuring extended tail fins, foreshadowed the styling of future Ferrari models, making it a pivotal design in Ferrari’s history. In its early years, the 375 MM was owned by a series of prominent individuals, starting with Inico Bernabei, an official Ferrari dealer from Rome. By 1956, it passed to Count Antonio Vaselli. The car’s American journey began in the 1960s, when it was sold to Chinetti Motors in New York, later being sold to various collectors including Ed Weschler and Carl De Bickero, who cherished the car for its originality and stunning beauty. By the early 2000s, the 375 MM was fully restored by renowned restoration specialist Wayne Obry’s Motion Products, Inc., returning the car to its former glory with the original Torino Show Car livery. It was showcased at numerous prestigious events, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the FCA International Concours, where it won the Luigi Chinetti Award and multiple Platinum awards. In 2011, the car was sold at RM Auctions’ Villa d’Este event for an impressive €3.36 million, marking its continued appeal among Ferrari collectors. More recently, it has been part of the esteemed collection of Leslie Wexner, appearing at major events like the Cavallino Classic. Today, the Ferrari 375 MM PF Berlinetta chassis 0490AM remains a treasured piece of Ferrari’s legacy, admired for both its beauty and its historical significance in the evolution of Ferrari design.
