The Partnership between Ferrari & Zagato

Between 1991 and ’92, a handful of Ferrari 348’s had their original Pininfarina-designed bodywork extensively modified by carrozzeria Zagato of Milan. However, due to legislative restrictions on crashworthiness, Zagato decided not to modify the engine, running gear or chassis of the stock 348, instead focusing on the aesthetics inside and out. Indeed, this programme influenced it’s designation, Zagato’s creation being known as the Elaborazione.
This Ferrari 348 Elaborazione Zagato is the first of just ten examples to feature the Elaborazione conversion, offered by Zagato from 1990-1992. The cosmetic package consisted of a new front bumper, enlarged cooling strakes, a triple rear light configuration and perhaps most strikingly, a lower roofline featuring the marque’s traditional “double bubble” arrangement, as well as a glass engine cover to show off the quad-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder V-8. Notably, the Ferrari 348 Elaborazione Zagato lost their trademark “cheese-grater” air intakes and rear grill, a design which would follow through with Ferrari’s F355 models. It was finished with attractive O.Z. Racing wheels and a redesigned suede interior.
