Chassis

#0425GT

The Ferrari 250 Europa GT Scaglietti chassis 0425GT.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 250 Europa GT Scaglietti chassis 0425GT is one of the rarest and most iconic cars in Ferrari history, being one of only three prototypes of the 250 GT Competizione Berlinetta TdF (Tour de France) model. It was first unveiled at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show and, over time, gained immense importance in the Ferrari lineup, marking a key moment in the brand’s evolution. In 1956, it was displayed at the Geneva Show and the Torino Motor Show, where it impressed crowds with its distinctive design and performance. By the following year, it was in the hands of several notable owners, including Dr. Enrico Wax from Genoa and Alessandro Ruspoli of Rome. It was sold and exported to the United States in the late 1950s, passing through the hands of various collectors, including Jess Haynes and Tim Considine, both based in California. By the mid-1980s, the car had fallen into disrepair and was found in the desert in need of a complete restoration. Its value was realized when it was sold to Walt McCune, who invested in a comprehensive restoration, repainting the car in silver grey. The Ferrari’s revival began to take shape, and by 1989, it was making its mark on the concours scene, earning a prestigious 3rd place at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Over the years, the car continued to be carefully maintained and restored. In 1990, it was acquired by Hajime Tanaka of Japan, who later offered it for sale. The car changed hands a few more times in the 1990s, including a significant restoration by Mike Dopudja, which involved the installation of disc brakes and Koni dampers. In the 2000s, the car remained active in prestigious events like the Tour Auto and Mille Miglia, continuing its legacy as a celebrated example of Ferrari engineering. A full restoration was completed in 2011-2012 by Mark Allin of Race Drive Inc., and the car triumphed at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won Class M1 and received the Strother MacMinn Award. Today, the 250 Europa GT Scaglietti chassis 0425GT is a prime example of Ferrari’s rich heritage, having been showcased at major events, including the Concorso Ferrari in 2023, cementing its place as a rare and valuable gem in the Ferrari lineage.
