This car bofdied by Scaglietti, was built just one year after the first car to bear the Ferrari name. This is believed to be the seventh 166 SC built making it one of Enzo’s first creations. Ferrari achieved its first major competition success with the 166 SC, securing victory in the Mille Miglia and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The Ferrari 166 Spider Corsa presented here, chassis number 014I, is the third short chassis (2 254 mm) Spider Corsas modfied by Ferrari on demand of driver and owner Giampiero Bianchetti. Ferrari maintained for Bianchetti this 166 SC during this early racing period, what is documented in the Ferrari archives in Maranello. On initially leaving the factory in May 1948 with a 2420 mm long chassis, the 166 was fitted with an Ansaloni Spider Corsa body with cycle wings. It took part in its first race on 30 May, the Bari Formula 2 GP. Ferrari gave the drive to Fernando Righetti and according to archive material, the car retired following damage to the front. The 166’s season continued at a steady pace, with some significant results.
