The De Tomaso Guarà Spider represents a rare and exclusive variant of the iconic Guarà lineup, with only around five specimens ever built. This open version features a fixed windshield and a fabric soft top that can be completely folded down, allowing enthusiasts to fully experience the thrill of open-air driving. One of the distinctive features of the Guarà Spider is its clever storage solution for the folded soft top. When not in use, the folded soft top is neatly tucked away under a plastic cover located behind the seats, maintaining the sleek and sporty appearance of the vehicle. Designed by Carlo Gaino for Synthesis Design, the Guarà Spider posed unique challenges due to its open-top configuration. Initially equipped with BMW engines, this version of the Guarà was specifically tailored to accommodate the dimensions and specifications of these powertrains. However, the transition to Ford engines in 1998 presented a significant hurdle. The larger size of the Ford engines rendered the use of a soft top box unfeasible, resulting in design limitations for the Guarà Spider. Despite its limited production and engineering challenges, the De Tomaso Guarà Spider remains a coveted gem among collectors and enthusiasts. Its blend of Italian styling, open-top exhilaration, and rare exclusivity encapsulates the essence of the De Tomaso marque. Each specimen represents a unique piece of automotive history, embodying the vision and innovation of its designers and engineers.
