Daf City
The Daf City concept car built by OSI.
Vehicle Overview
The Daf City showcar, an innovative concept vehicle built by OSI and designed by Sergio Sartorelli, made its debut at the Turin Auto Salon in 1966. This unique showcar was based on the Daf 44, a small car known for its practicality and durability. However, the Citycar pushed the boundaries of design and functionality with several distinctive features. One of the most striking aspects of the Daf Citycar was its door configuration. On the left side, it featured a sliding door, a forward-thinking design choice that enhanced ease of entry and exit in tight urban spaces. This was complemented by suicide doors on the right side, which opened in the opposite direction from conventional doors, adding to the car’s unconventional and futuristic appeal. The Citycar’s design was not just about aesthetics but also about practicality and innovation, reflecting the forward-looking ethos of the 1960s. The combination of sliding and suicide doors was aimed at maximizing accessibility and convenience, making the car particularly well-suited for crowded city environments. Today, the Daf Citycar remains a piece of automotive history and can be seen at the Daf Museum in Eindhoven. This preserved showcar offers a glimpse into the experimental spirit of the 1960s automotive design and highlights the creative vision of Sergio Sartorelli. Visitors to the museum can appreciate the Citycar’s unique features and its place in the evolution of urban transportation design.
