Built in cooperation with Bertone, the Citroën Berlingo Coupe de Plage was intended for younger crowds frequently visiting the beach.
The Citroën Berlingo Coupé de Plage represents a unique blend of utility and leisure, designed to enhance the summer holiday experience. Powered by a robust 103-horsepower 1.8-liter engine sourced from the Citroen Xantia, this distinctive vehicle boasted a top speed of 102 miles per hour, ensuring smooth cruising along coastal roads. Crafted by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Bertone, the Coupé de Plage exuded a sense of fun and relaxation, perfectly suited for beachside adventures. Its rear pickup bed was ingeniously equipped with two beach reclining chairs, inviting occupants to bask in the sun’s warmth. With the rear window electrically lowered, occupants could effortlessly transition from driving to sunbathing, immersing themselves in the coastal ambiance. The design details of the Coupé de Plage further reinforced its beach-inspired aesthetic. Ocean wave designs adorned the speedometers, while blue needles evoked the tranquility of the sea. A surfboard rack atop the roof ensured that beachgoers could transport their aquatic gear with ease, while folding shelves provided convenient storage for cooling supplies. But the experience didn’t end there. External loudspeakers integrated seamlessly into the vehicle, allowing occupants to enjoy the soft melodies of the car’s radio as they lounged by the shore, further enhancing the atmosphere of relaxation and enjoyment. While the Citroën Berlingo Coupé de Plage may not rank among Bertone’s most iconic creations, its imaginative design and practical features make it a standout choice for summer excursions. Combining utility with leisure, this vehicle embodies the spirit of coastal living, offering a refreshing and enjoyable driving experience tailored to the carefree days of summer.
