BMW Nazca C2 Spider

The BMW Nazca C2 Spider by Italdesign Giugiaro.

Vehicle Overview

In 1993, Italdesign took the BMW Nazca C2, a remarkable vehicle derived from the BMW Nazca M12 designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro, and transformed it into a breathtaking open-topped Spider. By reimagining the rear end, Italdesign removed the side and rear windows, giving the Nazca C2 Spider a distinctively open-air feel. Yet, even with its convertible design, practicality was not sacrificed. In the event of rain, the windows could be swiftly reinstalled as they were conveniently housed in the spacious luggage compartment. Debuting at the 61st Montecarlo Grand Prix, the BMW Nazca C2 Spider made a grand entrance, parading over the town circuit during the intercourses. While an unconventional setting for a prototype launch, it proved to be an ideal location to showcase the car’s performance and sporty essence to its fullest extent. Accentuating its robust nature, the Nazca C2 Spider boasted a sturdy car-colored roll-bar with a rear compartment. The redesign of the engine compartment ensured that the highly characteristic design of the BMW 12-cylinder engine was prominently featured, with the engine proudly on display. Underneath its sleek exterior, the Spider was equipped with a potent powertrain surpassing that of its coupe counterpart. Propelled by a BMW 12-cylinder unit with a displacement of 5660 cc and generating an impressive 380 horsepower, the Spider shared the same engine as the renowned BMW 850 CSi. Such high power demanded the adoption of a robust 6-speed gearbox, ensuring seamless transmission of power to the wheels. With its combination of striking design elements, formidable performance, and meticulous attention to detail, the BMW Nazca C2 Spider represented the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design. Its presence at the Montecarlo Grand Prix underscored its status as a true marvel of automotive innovation, captivating enthusiasts and onlookers alike with its exhilarating performance and timeless elegance.
