In July 1961, Bertone went into production with the body of the BMW 3200 CS (3168 cc V8, 160 hp at 5600 rpm top speed of 200 km/h), a four-seater coupé with which the Munich manifacturer intended to enter the exclusive high performance car market.
The BMW 3200 CS Bertone: Starting with a 2835 mm wheelbase chassis, Bertone created a sober but exceedingly elegant car for BMW that was 4830 mm long, 1720 mm wide, 1460 mm high and weighed 1390 kg. On the styling front, the body was a smooth, classical lines due to its ample glass surfaces; the front end had a three element radiator grill the central unit of which underscored the two “kidney” motif, in line whit the tradition of the marque. The BMW 3200 CS made its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1961 and 597 examples were produced until April 1965. Only 1 cabriolet was made.
