The design and construction of these vehicles were overseen by Paolo Garella, who was a pivotal figure at Pininfarina during this period. While Pininfarina conceptualized and designed the Phoenix Cabriolet, much of the production work was subcontracted to the skilled team at Coggiola, another renowned Italian coachbuilder. This collaboration resulted in a masterpiece that seamlessly blended British elegance with Italian flair. In the 1990s, the Royal Family of Brunei was Pininfarina’s primary client, commissioning numerous custom vehicles to complement their extraordinary collection. However, this reliance on a single client proved financially risky. When the Royal Family eventually ceased their lavish car-buying habits, Pininfarina faced a serious financial crisis. The impact was so significant that the company was forced to sell much of its historic car collection to stay afloat. Despite this challenging chapter, the Bentley Phoenix Cabriolet remains a shining example of Pininfarina’s ability to create bespoke, world-class designs. Rare, exquisite, and rich in history, this car represents a golden era of coachbuilding. Today, it stands as a testament to the artistry and innovation that defined the collaboration between Pininfarina and the Royal Family of Brunei.
