The Aston Martin Vantage Volante was a distinguished grand tourer from the 1980s, renowned for its exclusivity and performance. The coupe made its debut at the 1986 Geneva Motor Show, where it garnered significant attention. Interestingly, orders were taken even though only a drawing of the car was presented, demonstrating the high demand and anticipation for this model. The creation of the Aston Martin Vantage Volante followed a controversial decision: all 52 coupes had been sold during the peak of the supercar speculation market, highlighting its desirability. The convertibles were intended to be even more coveted than their predecessors. The car, officially known as the V8 Zagato, was based on the Aston Martin V8 but featured a body designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Zagato. This collaboration resulted in an angular and modern reinterpretation of the classic Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato from the 1960s. One of the most contentious aspects of the Vantage Volante Zagato was its squared-off grille, a design choice that sparked debate among enthusiasts and critics alike. Despite this, the car’s performance capabilities were undeniable. It was powered by a formidable 430 hp (321 kW) V8 engine equipped with twin choke Weber carburetors. The all-alloy construction contributed to its impressive performance, allowing the Vantage Volante Zagato to achieve a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).
